Let's talk about setting up your Rhombus devices on your network. Here are some tips to make sure everything runs smoothly:
Local Area Network (LAN): Most of the time, your cameras will work fine out of the box. But every network is different, so we have some suggestions to help.
VLAN: It's a good idea to create a separate section of your network just for your cameras. This makes troubleshooting easier. If your network has different sections with restrictions, make sure port 8000 is open for cameras to share footage within the LAN.
DHCP: Cameras get their network settings automatically using DHCP. You can't give them a fixed IP address directly, but you can reserve IPs for them on your router.
DNS: Cameras need to access certain internet addresses. Sometimes, security measures can accidentally block them. Make sure to allow access to anything ending in 'rhombussystems.com'.
Firewall: Cameras usually don't need any special settings on your firewall. They send data out to the internet, so you don't need to set up anything special for them to work. Just make sure standard internet ports and protocols are allowed (TCP/443, UDP/53, NTP/123).
PoE: Make sure the switch your cameras are connected to supports PoE (Power over Ethernet). Each camera needs about 15W of power, so make sure your switch can handle the total power needed for all your cameras.
Hope this helps simplify things for you!
